Marketing Your Freelance Skills

I am trying Seeded Buzz out for the first time with this post. I will let you know what kind of results I get as far as traffic and back links in a few weeks.

But this is a very important post if you are wondering if you need to market yourself and your freelance skills online, and how to go about doing so effectively. You absolutely must market yourself if you expect to have clients find you, and it really does happen! If you market your freelance writing and blogging skills the right way, you actually can be hired by a client who discovers you rather than the often tiring, daily searching for freelance jobs.

I wrote a posts a few days ago about writing effective cover letters and added the post to Seeded Buzz. While I was there I found this great articleabout your professional online presence.

These two posts above are a step in the right direction when it comes to marketing yourself. It is not a one-shot deal where you post about your skills on a forum, blog, etc. Marketing yourself online is a process, with many steps, the two included here only a part of the whole. Writing and Blogging Jobs for Sunday, November 28, 2010

I decided today that I had room for one more part-time freelance writing or blogging job, so I went to the sites where I usually find these jobs and was so disgusted with the poor quality of the post I decided to go hunting on my own. The jobs listed at my formerly favorite site, freelancewritinggigs.com, were mostly not telecommuting jobs but on-site jobs, and this was not specified in the link. So I feel like all I did was waste my time, which I consider to be valuable. (I sure do miss Deb Ng! :(



When I go searching for jobs I want jobs that are strictly work from home. I also only search for jobs that pay decently (I will not work for less than .05 per word) and are totally current, (as in posted within two days or have an ongoing need for writers/bloggers, not three to four day-old jobs that are one-off needs or for only one person. Finding the jobs I am referring to requires time and effort, not just posting the first thing that pops up on Craigslist.) I understand that we are all trying to make money, but being earnest about finding jobs and passing them on to your fellow writers and bloggers must first be a labor of love.
