Setting Up Your Blog

Now we come to the part where things really begin to be fun. Setting up your own personal blog is nothing to be afraid of if you don't know anything about blogs or blogging. It's easy to learn, a blast to maintain, and a way to make money, with paid posting and with passive. income. As a writer it really is imperative that you have a blog. It's like your online business card, a place to store your resume and writing credits, offering instant access to prospective clients, offering them the ability to see your experience at a glance.




If you have researched blogs and blogging you may be thinking the best way to go is a free blog, and that's ok, but I strongly suggest you get your own hosted blog using Wordpress. Blogger.com will work in a pinch, but Wordpress is SO much easier to learn and has SO many more bells and whistles that you will be wishing you had on down the road. Also, getting your own hosted blog allows you to have your own domain name. This is important, for it presents you as a professional. If you use a free blog host you will always have their address in your URL (your web address.)

I suggest signing up with Just Host for your new blog. You can pay month to month as opposed to buying a years worth of hosting at a time, which many hosts require. Also, Just Host is a premium host with instant Wordpress installation using Fantastico. All you do is choose your domain name, (and think carefully about this, you want to get a web address, (URL) that describes you and what you do. You do not have to make the web address your name, you can call your blog anything you like. I suggest doing some research before you choose your domain name. Look at other writer's blogs and see what name they have), then buy your hosting package, (the cheapest package is fine, there will be plenty of disc space) and all you do then is click on install Wordpress with Fantastico, and presto!, you have a blog, your own blog with the URL of your choosing!
